What a Friend…

Posted by on Sep 27, 2015 in Sunday Hymns | 1 comment

We sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” during our time of Bible study this morning, and the words ministered to my heart in such a sweet way. I’m not discouraged at the moment or going through a trial (watch out, Anne! right?), but sometimes home and friends seem very far away from my little corner of the world. But what a precious thought that Jesus is my friend and I can take everything to Him in prayer – right here. Let the words of this song minister to your heart like they did to mine today…

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged –
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge –
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Truly There Is A Sweet And Blessed Story.

I wrote about it last year.

And the year before.
And in 2007 with a snowy adventure thrown in for good measure.
But no matter how many times I’ve written about it, there is always a freshness — a newness — about each January 25th. I praise the Lord that 12 years ago today He lifted me up from the miry clay and set me free!
The song below has been floating through my mind this evening and I thought I would jot down a couple of the verses. I trust this will be a blessing to you as it has been to me!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There’s a sweet and blessed story
Of the Christ Who came from glory
Just to rescue me, from sin and misery.
He in lovingkindness sought me,
And from sin and shame hath brought me.
Hallelujah! Jesus ransomed me.
Chorus: Hallelujah, what a Savior,
Who can take a poor lost sinner,
Lift him from the miry clay and set him free!
I will ever tell the story,
Shouting, “Glory, glory, glory!”
Hallelujah! Jesus ransomed me!
From the depth of sin and sadness
With His precious blood He bought me;
When I knew Him not, He sought me,
And in love divine He ransomed me.
Love Found Me!
Two of my favorite songs are Near The Cross and My Jesus I Love Thee. Both were sung during the Sunday morning service and my heart just rejoiced in my Savior.
As we sang Near The Cross, I thought about the second verse, specifically the second line:
Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.
It’s true that love and mercy found me. Not because I was “worth finding” or a great catch. I often think on how I must be one of His most stubborn children that needs to be constantly straightened out by the Word. Yet He still found me and made me His own! Because of that, I want to glory in Him for ever. His goodness, kindness, and love overwhelmed me anew today. Praise His Name!
~~~~~~~~~~

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvary’s mountain.

Refrain: In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o’er me.

Near the cross I’ll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.

My Master.

Sundays are often a busy day around here, especially since we live about 40 kilometers away from church (that’s about 25 miles). Today we were only home for about 30 minutes, so most of the day was spent in church services. We finally came home this evening, and so I got on the computer in preparation for listening to my church’s morning service. I turned on some music and was zipping through my e-mail and Google Reader when I heard this song. This is one of my favorite songs as it gets me thinking every time about my relationship with the Lord.

Jesus walked this path before me
Void of friend with comforts few.
If I follow in His footsteps
I must know his heartaches too
He was mocked and scorned, rejected,
Left to die upon a tree.
Am I greater than my Master,
He who gave His life for me?

Shall I stay and dwell with Jesus
Though all others turn aside.
He has giv’n to me His promise,
In His shadow I’ll abide.
Help me stay upon the altar,
A living sacrifice I’ll be.
Am I greater than my Master,
He who died on Calvary?

Though the way be straight and narrow
Though I’m weary, bruised, and torn.
I must press forever onward
‘Til that glorious joyful morn.
When I see my risen Saviour
Touch the wounds He bore for me.
Am I greater than my Master,
He whose blood bought victory?

I shall see my risen Saviour,
Touch the wounds he bore for me!
Am I greater than my Master
He whose blood bought victory?

Good words to think on as I end a really good day…

My Soul Is Anchored!

Posted by on Jan 25, 2009 in Getting to know me, Sunday Hymns | 6 comments

This day has been a very special day to me for 11 years. I am who I am today because of what happened on Sunday, January 25, 1998. The day I met Christ forever changed my life!

The testimony for my life can be found in the words of this song:

My soul in sad exile was out on life’s sea,
So burdened with sin and distressed,
Till I heard a sweet voice, saying,
“Make Me your choice”;
And I entered the “Haven of Rest”!

Refrain: I’ve anchored my soul in the “Haven of Rest,”
I’ll sail the wide seas no more;
The tempest may sweep over wild, stormy, deep,
In Jesus I’m safe evermore.
I yielded myself to His tender embrace,
In faith taking hold of the Word,
My fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul;
The “Haven of Rest” is my Lord.
The song of my soul, since the Lord made me whole,
Has been the old story so blest,
Of Jesus, who’ll save whosoever will have
A home in the “Haven of Rest.”
Oh, come to the Savior, He patiently waits
To save by His power divine;
Come, anchor your soul in the “Haven of Rest,”
And say, “My Beloved is mine.”

A Precious Promise.

All the way my Savior leads me,
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living Bread.
Though my weary steps may falter
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.

All the way my Savior leads me,
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.
